I post a regular commentary on religious subjects each Sunday entitled Since It's Sunday. I also comment on religious whackery as I notice it. Promised independence yet subjugated once again. Under the auspices of Christian "governance." I lived in the Philippines under Ferdinand Marcos. I find it strange that the religion of the oppressors becomes the relion of the oppressed. Perhaps it is in the belief that by worshipping the same way they will be accepted as equals. Sadly, as African Americans have proven, that is not the case.
There will always need to be "enemies" in the Philippines in order to justify militarization. Huks or Muslims or whoever. Keep those good Christian values alive and let God sort them out. And the RNC keeping their meddling spoons in the pot of politics there.
I am glad that your area is not affected by the turmoil.

It's not so much a Muslim vs. Catholic war as it is Muslims wanting to separate from a Catholic state. It's not really them disliking Catholics as it is them disliking Catholic law. Personally, I can't really blame them since the Philippine government allows itself to be controlled so easily by the Catholic church. However, the way they have segregated themselves as being Muslim instead of being "the people of the southern regions" does cast some doubt over their true motives.
The war has been on since before I was born. It's part of life back here. Only the degree of violent activity changes. And, no, it's nowhere near where I am at. Every year or so, there's a terrorist attack nearby but, again, it's taken as part of Philippine life.
