Richard,
I haven't heard of that group. I confess I'm not much of a joiner (in RL, online it's a different story). I actually belong to more online tech forums and groups than social action groups. Dispelling the notion that gods exist is important to me yet it's secondary to my involvement in the PC/Mac/Linux world, helping people, especially seniors, to understand and use their computers more profitably.
I will, though, Google them and maybe even attend a meeting, just to see what it's all about. Thanks for the lead.

Hello - I find your blog very interesting, and let me just say that I wholeheartedly agree with what seems to be your central premise that religious ideas are perpetuated through ignorance and poor parenting. I was wondering, though, how you would respond to recent research on the biological (rather than environmental) basis for belief - i.e., the "God Gene." Any thoughts on that?

Conversational Intolerance

A while back our member Trent Eady, futurist and creator of http://www.trenteady.com/ inaugurated a facebook group to promote "conversational intolerance". I visited the group today because I have recently encountered people who don't appreciate my direct style of confronting religion. They said I was "offensive". I wanted ideas to fight back with, and in focusing on Sam Harris' concept I let my mind go into free running mode. A dangerous proposition, I wi… Continue

Sam Harris lays it out in a Newsweek article

Here are the reasons all Americans must soundly reject John McCain and Sarah Palin:

http://www.newsweek.com/id/160080

I applaud Newsweek for having the courage to publish the noted atheist, Sam Harris's article. He succinctly and completely lays out the reasons why this women is a threat to our democracy. She is an unhinged religious fanatic in spite of all the frantic work that is being done in the background to scrub her reputation and cover up… Continue

Where did Sarah Palin come from?

Many people are scratching their heads wondering how in the world an ignoramus like Sarah Palin gets picked to be a candidate for a position that is next in line behind the person who is arguably the most powerful politician in the world, the United States President. She was chosen by the same seditious shadowy cabal that chose G. W. Bush and put him in office for two terms through rigged elections, namely the Council for National Policy. These filthy rich overlords will do and say anything to r… Continue

Why arguing with believers is useless

One of my long standing intellectual pursuits has been to try and understand the roots of bigotry. Why is it impossible to reason people out of their unreasonable ideas? You can say, that people are just stubborn and resistant to change. But, then you have to give an explanation for stubbornness and resistance to change. Obviously, the answer lies deeper in our psyches.

We do know that the brain organizes information in an associative manner. Concepts are linked in an unimaginable tangle of rel… Continue
